Sri Lankan Community Celebrates Record Avurudu Festival in Dubai

The Sri Lankan community in Dubai celebrated the traditional New Year with an unprecedented turnout at Zabeel Park this weekend. The event, organized by the Lanka Social Forum, featured traditional games including kotta pora, kana mutti, and pillow fights, along with authentic food stalls and cultural performances.\n\n"This year's celebration was truly special," said event organizer Dilini Jayawardena. "We saw families from across all seven emirates coming together to celebrate our heritage."\n\nThe festival also featured a special appearance by renowned Sri Lankan singer Bathiya Jayakody, who performed a selection of classic Avurudu songs that had the crowd dancing well into the evening.
